John Whelan Library

The John Whelan Library was named after Cambridge's astronomer John Whelan (QJRAS, 23, 460), and it was established in 1985. It is the library of the Isaac Newton Group of Telescopes (ING). The library provides two locations:

The Isaac Newton Telescope (INT) Library is located on the first floor of the the INT building, at the Roque de Los Muchachos Observatory.
The Sea-Level Office (SLO) Library is located on the 5th floor of ING's SLO in Santa Cruz de La Palma.

Other facilities include a photographic Plate Library, an Old and Rare Book Library, and an archive of astronomy documentation. The JWL maintains liaison with these other libraries and consortia.
