Comet 46P Wirtanen

Description: Comet 46P/Wirtanen photographed on the night of 16th December 2018 at perihelion, from the vicinity of the Isaac Newton Telescope (INT). The image was taken using a Canon EOS 6D Mark I camera with a Canon 100-400 L IS USM lens, on a SkyWatcher Star Adventurer mount. Comet 46P/Wirtanen is seen here on the right as a blurred, greenish object near the Pleiades. The bright, orange star on the left, between the Hyades and NGC 1647 open clusters, is Aldebaran (alpha Tauri). Credit: Abel de Burgos Sierra.
