1. ACCESS TO THE ELECTRONIC VERSION OF JOURNALS
-----------------------------------------------

As you know, most of the main journals have become electronic too. This is
really an advantage because we don't have to wait for the printed version
to read a paper. Furthermore we have access to the recent issues from any
terminal if the network works.

The usual method to get one of these subscriptions is submitting the client
site's dominion. For others, you get a login and password. You can find the
journals we are subscribed to and others in the "virtual library" at the
library web pages: http://www.ing.iac.es/library/welcome.html

If you are asked for a password then read the file passwords.txt at
~library/pub on lpss1 or lpss2.ing.iac.es. At the moment, for instance, we
have access to the electronic version of the Astrophysical Journal,
Astronomy and Astrophysics, and Publications of the Astronomical Society of
the Pacific, and we will have access to New Astronomy, Nature and Science
very soon.

2. A NEW ELECTRONIC SUBSCRIPTION FROM THE LIBRARY
-------------------------------------------------

The library is now offering a new electronic subscription: CONTENTS. This
subscription will allow you to receive the table of contents of the main
refereed astronomy journals in your own email account. The messages are sent
separately, one for each journal, every monday morning and at the same time.
At the moment, CONTENTS provides the following table of contents:

A&A
ApJ Suppl. Series
ApJ
Astrophysics & Space Science
Mercury
MNRAS
PASP

In each message you will find a field called 'Ubicacio'. Please, ignore it. If
you wish to subscribe to CONTENTS, please, email me: jma@ing.iac.es

Remember that the library also offers IAUCIRC (astronomy urgent news) and
ASTROPH (astronomy preprints). So now with ASTROPH and CONTENTS you can track
your research field in the latest publications.

If you want to get a paper which appears in a table of contents you
have two options:

- wait until the printed issue arrives at the library.

- or download it from the electronic version of the publication. This is now
possible because most of the astronomy journals have full text electronic
versions and the list is still growing. Go to the "virtual library", in the
library web page (http://www.ing.iac.es/library/welcome.html), and look for
it in the astronomy journals - full text section.

3. DONATIONS
------------

Stephen Crump donated some numbers of the Optical Engineering Journal, and
Colin Aspin (NOT) donated 10 books.

Thanks to all of them!

* To order books, email this information to me: title, author, ISBN number,
approximate price, publisher, year of publication (or edition) and
number copies too (if more than one, justify).
* To borrow books, fill out one of the loan cards which are on the library's
table. All the books can be borrowed except those at the INT library.
Put the loan card into one of the red plastic bags which are also on the
library's table and replace the book by the red bag. After reading, return
the book to the 'Returned Books' tray. Don't try to put it on the
shelves. You can borrow the book as long as you need it.
