John Whelan Library Bulletin is issued at irregular intervals,
whenever there is important news from the Library. Suggestions and
comments on this bulletin are welcome.
Note: The INT Library is situated on the first floor of the
Isaac Newton Telescope building and the SLO Library is placed on the
sixth floor of the Mayantigo building. The SLO Library is split into
a Book Library, a Periodical Library and a Display, all located on
the same floor. Online information can be found at:

1. EXPANSION OF OUR COLLECTION OF BOOKS
---------------------------------------
Our collection of books at the SLO book library now comprises around
8000 titles, thanks to the recent work done by Sheila Crosby, who
was contracted from December to March to catalogue and shelf more
than 2000 new books. The telescope operator Antonio Garcia also
assisted in this task as part of his daytime duties. I would like
to thank both for an excellent job.
2. RECENT BOOK ACQUISITIONS

The following books have arrived recently and can be found on
the New Acquisitons shelf in the display at the social area
on the 6th floor of the Mayantigo building (aka SLO Display).
All of them can be borrowed as usual unless they are marked
as books not to be taken away.

3. OTHER NEWS
-------------
Beginning with 2009 the subscription to the Astronomical Journal (AJ)
is only online. It can be accessed at http://www.iop.org/EJ/journal/aj.
The journals ‘Astronomia’ (Spanish) and ‘Zenith’ (Dutch) are new
subscriptions that can be found displayed on the 6th floor of Mayantigo
Building.

GOLD RULES FOR LIBRARY USERS
1. NONE of the items at the INT Library, the SLO Periodical Library
or the SLO Display can be borrowed, except those withdrawn from
the Library and marked as so.
2. ALL items at the SLO Book Library can be borrowed except those
labeled as 'NOT TO BE TAKEN AWAY' or 'FOR REFERENCE'.
3. If, after having a look at a book, you don't know where to put it
back, please leave it in the RETURNED BOOKS tray at the SLO Book
Library.
4. NEVER take away a book without filling in a LOAN CARD.
5. NEVER place a filled loan card on the shelves. Leave it in the
FILLED LOAN CARDS mailbox at the SLO Book Location instead. Books
must be returned within one year.
6. After borrowing, NEVER return a book to the shelves, even if you
know the right place. Leave it in the RETURNED BOOKS tray at the
SLO Book Library.
7. NEVER take away the books placed in the RETURNED BOOKS tray.
