================================================
(Also at http://www.ing.iac.es/Astronomy/library/bulletins.html)
John Whelan Library Bulletin is issued at irregular intervals,
whenever there is important news from the library. Suggestions and
comments on this bulletin are welcome.
Note: The INT Library is situated on the first floor of the
Isaac Newton Telescope building and the SLO Library is placed on the
sixth floor of Mayantigo building. The SLO Library is split into a
Book Library, a Periodical Library and a Display, all located on the
same floor. Online information can be found at:

4. Other news.
1. MOVING SOME PRINT AND ONLINE SUBSCRIPTIONS TO ONLY ONLINE
------------------------------------------------------------
As a result of the increase in the subscription costs to print
editions, the increasing availability, reliability and faster
access to online-only subscriptions, and the collaboration
started with IAC to share the costs of some electronic
subscriptions, some library's journal subscriptions have
migrated to only-online, or soon they will. Below I list the
subscriptions which are going through this process:
Astronomy and Astrophysics : A European journal.
Print subscription stopped at the end of 2006, and we share an
electronic subscription with IAC since then. Online access from
vol.1 (1969) to vol.365 (2000) is offered by Springer, and from
2001 onwards by EDP Sciences. More information on the online
subscription can be found here.
EAS Publication Series.
Print subscription stopped at the end of 2006, and we share an
electronic subscription with IAC since then. It allows us to have
access to the online edition from 2001 onwards. More information
on the online subscription can be found
here.
Nature.
We share an electronic subscription with IAC since 2006, giving us
access to all issues published 2000 and onwards. Our previous online
subscription also allows online access to all issues back to 1997,
and our repository of printed copies goes from 1970 to present.
The print subscription is continued. More information on the online
subscription can be found here.
ASP conference series.
Our standing order for print copies will cease at the end of 2007,
and we will share an online-only subscription with IAC from 2008
onwards. The online archive goes back to 2003 and our current
repository of hardcopies goes back to vol.1 (1988). More information
on the online subscription can be found here.
Astrophysical Journal, Letters and Supplement, and Astronomical
Journal.
Our print subscription will cease some time in 2008, and it will
continue as an online-only subscription, that can be shared with
IAC. Library's print repositories go back to 1895 (ApJ), 1967
(ApJ Letters), 1954 (ApJ Suppl), and 1849 (AJ), while at present
the online archives available to subscribers go back to 1996 (ApJ),
1995 (ApJ Letters), 1996 (ApJ Suppl), and 1998 (AJ).
Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society.
Our print subscription will cease some time in 2008, and it will
continue as an online-only subscription, that can be shared with
IAC. The library's print repository goes back to vol. 1 (1827),
while at present the online archive available to subscribers
starts in 1998, including Letters and online-only Letters
(from 2005).
2. DISPLAY OF PERIODICALS AT THE WHT
------------------------------------
At present most of the periodicals are displayed at sea-level
and just a few titles are displayed at the WHT kitchen. Both are
kept at sea-level and at the INT library respectively. In order
to reach all users efficiently, I will display a number of titles
first at the WHT kitchen and then I will move them to the SLO
display so sea-level users will have access to all periodicals,
while users on the mountain will be able to have access to more
titles as more space will be available at the WHT kitchen.
I would like to ask mountain users about the following:
A. What titles would you like to see displayed at the WHT kitchen
which are currently displayed at sea-level?
The titles displayed at sea-level can be seen at
http://www.ing.iac.es/Astronomy/library/inventory.html and then
SLO Display --> Display of Periodicals, or following this link
B. What titles do you think we can withdraw from displaying
at the WHT kitchen?
The titles currently displayed at the WHT kitchen can be seen at
http://www.ing.iac.es/Astronomy/library/inventory.html and then
INT Library --> Display of periodicals (WHT kitchen), or
following this link.
3. RECENT BOOK ACQUISITIONS
---------------------------
The following books have arrived recently and can be found on
the New Acquisitons shelf in the display at the social area
on the 6th floor of Mayantigo building (SLO Display). All of
them can be borrowed as usual unless they are marked as books
not to be taken away.
