John Whelan Library Bulletin is issued at irregular intervals,
whenever there is important news from the library. Suggestions and
comments on this bulletin are welcome.

Note: Note: The INT Library is situated on the first floor of the
Isaac  Newton Telescope building and the SLO Library is placed on the
sixth  floor of Mayantigo building. The SLO Library is split into a
Book  Library, a Periodical Library and a Display, all located on the
same floor.  Online information can be found at:

1. MOVE OF THE DISPLAY FROM THE SLO PERIODICAL LIBRARY
------------------------------------------------------

The display at the SLO Periodical Library has been moved to the 
Social Area on  the same floor. On this display you can now find the 
latest issues of every active periodical subscription, the recent 
book acquisitions, the latest annual and technical reports, and the 
items that have been withdrawn from the library. None of these can 
be taken away, except the latter. Books can be borrowed filling in a 
loan card at the SLO Book Library. The display at the new location will 
be referred from now on as the "SLO Display".


2. MOVE OF THE PHOTOCOPIER 
--------------------------

The photocopier formerly placed in the SLO Book Library has been 
moved to the SLO Periodical Library.


3. RECENT BOOK ACQUISITIONS 
---------------------------

The following books have arrived recently and can be found at the SLO
Display.  All of them can be borrowed as usual unless they are marked
as books not to be  taken away.

4. OTHER NEWS 
-------------

- Beginning January 1, 2007, Mercury Magazine will appear quarterly.

- Frontiers has ceased publication. Last issue was winter 2007.

GOLD RULES FOR LIBRARY USERS

1. NONE of the items at the INT Library, the SLO Periodical Library 
   or the SLO Display can be borrowed, except those withdrawn from
   the library and marked as so.

2. ALL items at the SLO Book Library can be borrowed except those 
   labeled as 'NOT TO BE TAKEN AWAY' or 'FOR REFERENCE'.

3. If, after having a look at a book, you don't know where to put it 
   back, please leave it in the RETURNED BOOKS tray at the SLO Book     
   Library.

4. NEVER take away a book without filling in a LOAN CARD.

5. NEVER place a filled loan card on the shelves. Leave it in the 
   FILLED LOAN CARDS mailbox at the SLO Book Library instead. Books 
   must be returned within one year.

6. After borrowing, NEVER return a book to the shelves, even if you 
   know the right place. Leave it in the RETURNED BOOKS tray at the 
   SLO Book Library.

7. NEVER take away the books placed in the RETURNED BOOKS tray.
