================================================
Also at: http://www.ing.iac.es/Astronomy/library/
John Whelan Library Bulletin is issued at irregular intervals, whenever
there is important news at the library. Suggestions and comments on this
bulletin are welcome.
Note: The INT Library is the library on the first floor of the Isaac Newton
Telescope building and the SLO Library is on the sixth floor of Mayantigo
building, the observatory's sea-level base in Santa Cruz de La Palma. The
SLO Library is split into a book library and a periodical library.

1. NEW WEB PAGES
----------------
The internet library web pages live now at
http://www.ing.iac.es/Astronomy/library and the intranet web pages at
http://www.ing.iac.es/Intranet/library. The former ones are linked at the
ING Astronomy home page and the latter ones at the ING Intranet home page.
At the intranet web pages you can find the IAU circulars, passwords to
access some on-line subscriptions, the e-journals received by email, the
documents of the RGO library loan, and the missing books from the library,
among others. The ING intranet is only accesible to ING users. If you aren't
an ING user please contact the librarian (jma@ing.iac.es) for any inquires.
2. LIBRARY EXPANSION NEWS
-------------------------
The library expansion is an ongoing project aimed at placing and making
available the RGO indefinite loan of books and periodicals. Due to the huge
amount of work this is progressing slowly. Recent achievements include the
re-organisation of the SLO periodical library and the move of the library
catalogues to a Html-Perl-SQL based system. The search interface based on
the mentioned system will be available on-line soon. There are also plans to
move all the library administration files to such system. The
re-organisation of the book library at sea-level will take place by the end
of summer. We apologise for the inconveniences this is generating.

ASTRONOMY AND ASTROPHYSICS
An important announcement for readers, authors and libraries:
>From 1st January 2001, the Main Journal will be published by EDP Sciences.
>From 1st January 2001, the Supplement Series will be merged with the
Main Journal.
The Supplement Series was started in 1970 to publish papers with large
amounts of tables or figures. Since 1994 long tables have not been
published on paper, but have been stored electronically at the Centre
de Donnees Stellaire at Strasbourg. In this way the material is made
available to readers in computer readable form, which they can use for
further work. Partly because of this change, the number of papers
submitted to the Supplement Series in the last few years has been
declining. The advent of electronic publishing, together with the
electronic storage of tables, has removed the need for a Supplement
Series. It is expected that the new merged journal will appear four
times per month.
There are now three new websites available for the journal.
The Board of Directors of Astronomy & Astrophysics now has its own
domain and website, http://www.aanda.org/
On this website you can find details of the Board of Directors and
their work.
The Editorial Offices have websites, which give instructions to
authors about submitting their papers. They are

* To order books, email me with this information: title, author, ISBN number,
approximate price, publisher, year of publication (or edition), number of
copies, and a short justification. Also specify which group should be
charged (library or other).
* To borrow books, fill out one of the loan cards which are on the library's
table. All the books can be borrowed except those at the INT library.
Put the loan card into one of the red plastic bags, which are also on the
library's table, and replace the book by the red bag. After reading,
return the book to the 'Returned Books' tray. Don't try to put it on the
shelves. You can borrow the book not longer than 1 year. Periodicals
cannot be borrowed.
