John Whelan Library (JWL) Bulletin is issued at irregular intervals, whenever
there is important news at the library. Suggestions and comments on this
bulletin are welcome.
Note: The INT Library is the library on the first floor of the Isaac Newton
Telescope building and the SLO Library is on the sixth floor of Mayantigo
building, the observatory's sea-level base.

1. LIBRARY EXPANSION AT SEA-LEVEL

Most of the books and journals of the RGO indefinite loan will be placed on
the sixth floor of our sea-level base. We plan to make a better use of the
actual space and to occupy part of the social area. The librarian's office
will be moved to the terminals room on the same floor. We expect to finish
before this summer.
2. NEW SUBSCRIPTIONS

- 'Nexus - Expatriate Magazine'. Displayed at the SLO library.
- 'IRAF Newsletter'. Displayed at the SLO library.
- 'STP and SCOSTEP Newsletter'. Displayed at the SLO library.
- 'Astrophysics and Space Science'. Displayed at the SLO library.
3. DONATIONS
------------
- The ING Personnel Department donated a subscription to 'Nexus - Expatriate
Magazine'. This magazine is displayed at the SLO library.
- Dennis Amstrong donated several C programming language manuals.
- Nick Johnson donated vol. 40 (1998) of SpaceFlight magazine. This magazine
is stored at the INT library.
- Marco Azzaro donated a copy of his 'ING Meteorological Report of the year
1998'. It's now displayed at the New Acquisitions shelf at the SLO library.
Thanks to all of them!
4. NEW ACQUISITIONS

The following books have arrived recently. If location is not specified,
they are on the New Acquisition shelf in the SLO library. If the book is
part of the TNG contribution towards the library, then it's indicated. All
of them can be borrowed as usual unless they are placed in a non-borrowing

ORDERING PAPERS
If you need a paper which you can't find in the library, please contact the
librarian. Recently we have reached an agreement to get papers from the IAC
library.
GRAPHICS AND VISUALIZATION NEWSLETTER HAS FINISHED PUBLICATION
'Graphics and Visualization Newsletter', currently displayed at the SLO
library has finished publication. Last volume number was 63, 02/99.
THE ANECDOTE
I have received a proforma invoice for Vol. 3c of Landolt Bornstein Series
of Astronomy and Astrophysics, Springer-Verlag. This 220-pages book costs
1,527 pounds! Obviously we have rejected such invoice.

* To order books, email this information to me: title, author, ISBN number,
approximate price, publisher, year of publication (or edition) and
number of copies (if more than one, please, justify). Also specify which
account you wish to be charged, library or any other.
* To borrow books, fill out one of the loan cards which are on the library's
table. All the books can be borrowed except those at the INT library.
Put the loan card into one of the red plastic bags, which are also on the
library's table, and replace the book by the red bag. After reading,
return the book to the 'Returned Books' tray. Don't try to put it on the
shelves. You can borrow the book as long as you need it.
