WORKING WITH GASP

GASP is a visiting instrument developed by the same group that used TRIFFID at the WHT years ago. It is used at the CASSEGRAIN focus with the CAGB autoguider. They use their own cooling system, similar to the one for ULTRACAM.
Startup

TCS:
  • USER> STATION CASS
  • USER> INSTRUMENT OWN
  • USER> AGSELECT CASSE
  • Zeroset Rot, AZ and ALT
  • USER> CAL LAST
  • USER> FOCUS 97.6-97.7 (Dec 2015 value)

Autoguider: GASP requires guiding with the usual Cass autoguider.

TV: The TV is not used for acquisition.

Rotator Centre and 7-star calibrate: These were done successfully in Dec 2015.

Observing

Sky PA: Observing may be at Sky PA 140 to put North up and East right (Berto) or it could be 45 degrees different from this (Karl).

Acquisition: There is no acquisition TV so acquisition is done on the detector. Move the t/s using the handset to place the target on a weak, dark red cross or square on the observer's monitor. This can be tricky because the cross and the target are hard to see from across the room.

Observations: Typically, exposures are long.

Data Handling

The data are handled by the observers and the runs do not appear on ING logs.
