Thousand Element Integral Field Unit (TEIFU)

First light: June 1999.

Last commissioning:

Designed and built by: Astronomical Instrumentation Group, Physics Department, Durham University.

Description: TEIFU is a new system for two-dimensional (integral field) spectroscopy using adaptively-corrected images produced by the ELECTRA (and later, NAOMI) adaptive optics systems. It is also able to operate in a stand-alone mode without an adaptive optics system.

The system is mounted on an optical bench in the WHT GHRIL, fed by the Nasmyth focus, and feed fibres into RGO's WYFFOS fibre spectrograph.
