Comet 46P/Wirtanen photographed by Abel de Burgos Sierra on the night of 16th December 2018 at perihelion, from the vicinity of the Isaac Newton Telescope (INT). He used a Canon EOS 6D Mark I camera with a Canon 100-400 L IS USM lens, on a SkyWatcher Star Adventurer mount. Comet 46P/Wirtanen is seen here on the right as a blurred, greenish object near the Pleiades. The bright, orange star on the left, between the Hyades and NGC 1647 open clusters, is Aldebaran (alpha Tauri). Abel is an INT support astronomer and graduate student in the
ING studentship programme. Credit: Abel de Burgos Sierra. Large format: [
