TEIFU: Thousand Element Integral Field Unit

First light: June 1999.

Designed and built by: Astronomy Instrumentation Group, Physics Department, Durham University.

Description: EIFU is a new system for two-dimensional (integral field) spectroscopy using adaptively-corrected images produced by the ELECTRA (and later, NAOMI) adaptive optics systems. It is also able to operate in a stand-alone mode without an adaptive optics system.

The system is mounted on an optical bench in the WHT GHRIL, fed by the Nasmyth focus, and feed fibres into RGO´s WYFFOS fibre spectrograph.
