INTEGRAL: Integral Spectrograph— Areal fiber-optics spectrograph —
|
First light (at ING): 1997 De-commissioned: 2016 Designed and built by: Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC), Royal Greenwich Observatory (RGO), Isaac Newton Group (ING).
Description:
INTEGRAL is an integral-field spectroscopic facility deployed at the Nasmyth focus of the WHT. This device picks up and dissects light from extended objects, and channels the light into WYFFOS fibre spectrograph. Three fibre bundles are available with field sizes ranging from 10 to 40 arcseconds and different fibre core sizes, which allow observers to make the most efficient use of the prevailing seeing conditions. This instrument is particularly useful for kinematic studies of galaxies.
INTEGRAL was offered as a common-user instrument from 1997 to 2004. In 2004 it became a private instrument.
