4.9.6 Annotating Documents and URL objects

Using Discussion objects, BSCW offers a flexible and powerful function to annotate Documents and URL objects. Annotations may complement Description and Rating as meta information on these types of objects.

An annotation is transferred with the object it is attached to when you    or    this object. An annotation is not included, however, when you  ,    or    the object it is attached to.

A Document or URL object can have only one Discussion attached to it as an annotation. Within this attached Discussion the same functionality as in a "stand-alone" Discussion Forum is available.

• Click [Add Note] on the [Action] bar of the Document or URL object that you want to annotate

to bring up the 'New Note to Document name' form.

• Choose the type of Note, enter a name in the 'Subject' field and enter the text of the annotation.
• Click

  to create the attached Discussion object and the first Note in it, or to add a new Note object that does not reply to an earlier Note in the attached Discussion.

• Click the    icon to the right of the name of the annotated object

to display the page of the attached Discussion, where you may    to earlier Notes (see section 4.9.3) or    Notes copied or cut from other Discussions.
