4.9.3 Replying to Notes

BSCW's [Reply] Action lets you define links from existing Notes to a new Note that you plan to add to a Discussion. Links need to be defined in advance of actually creating the new Note; links cannot be retrofitted between existing Notes.

If you want to reply to (= create a link to) just one existing Note:

• Click [Reply] on the [Action] bar of the Note's entry in the Discussion page or a higher-level Folder page that contains the Note.

• click    on the top button bar of the Note page

to bring up the 'New Note to Discussion name' form.

• choose the type of contribution (see section 4.9) most appropriate for the message of the Note object you create -- the corresponding icon will later be displayed left of the name of the Note object;
• write or paste (drop) the text of the article into the 'Message' field. HTML tags following a <P> tag in the text of an article will be interpreted by browsers displaying the article.
  The form shows you the name(s) and message(s) of the Note(s) that you reply to, offering a convenient way to copy parts of their text as citations that you may refer to in your contribution;
• enter the gist of your contribution -- condensed to two or three words -- in the 'Subject' field,
• click

  to add the Note object to the Discussion Forum.

If you want to reply to (= create links to) several existing Notes:

• display the Discussion page or Folder page that shows the entries of all Notes that you want to reply to.
  If necessary,
• click the    icons of Folders and Discussions to show their contents.
• Select (checkmark) the entries of the Notes that you want to reply to.
• Click    on the button bar for selected objects

to bring up the 'New Note to Discussion name' form.

• Create the new Note as outlined above.
