The Isaac Newton Group of Telescopes

The Isaac Newton Group of Telescopes (ING) comprises the 4.2-m William Herschel Telescope (WHT) and the 2.5-m Isaac Newton Telescope (INT), operating within the Observatorio del Roque de los Muchachos on La Palma in the Canary Islands, Spain. The WHT began scheduled use by the astronomical community in August 1987, and the INT in May 1984.

The ING is operated on behalf of the UK Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC), the Nederlanse Organisatie voor Wetenschappelijk Onderzoek (NWO), and the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC). The STFC, NWO, and IAC have entered into collaborative agreements for the operation of, and the sharing of observing time on, the ING telescopes.
