4.7.2.1 Default access rights holders

In the Access details table, the access rights for an object are described on a 'per user' basis. In general, however, it would be impractical to assign and manage access rights on the 'per user' level. Typically, it is more convenient to assign identical access rights to a set of Workspace members or of external users who have identical tasks or roles vis-a-vis a set of objects.

Following this approach, BSCW differentiates -- for each object -- three top-level roles that are used to assign and manage access rights:

'Owners' typically are members of the Workspace at the same time. 'Members' and 'Other users ...' are complementary sets. You may modify the access rights of 'Members' or of 'Other users ...' without affecting the access rights of the other.
