Helium flexlines
|
This section deals with the Helium flexlines as they are used in the system
to connect the compressor to the cold head. It will also explain how to
connect and disconnect the aeroquip fittings.
In the current system we are using 1/2" ID flex lines. These are
6m length rubber hoses with a steel braid to protect the rubber. On both ends an
aeroquip connector is fitted. These are made to connect and disconnect without
loosing pressure. Each flex line is pressurized with Helium and therefore ready
to be connected to the system so there is no need to purge them.
When connecting or disconnecting flexlines you have bear the following things
in mind:
Always connect the flexlines to the compressor first,
then work towards the coldhead. |
When connecting flexlines |
First connect the return-flexline, then connect the supply-flexline |
When disconnecting flexlines |
First disconnect the supply-flexline, then disconnect the
return-felxline |
The aeroquip connectors are designed to be connected and disconnected
without pressure leakage. Making and breaking the connectors is straight
forward. The only thing you should watch for is the O-ring that is fitted on
the male-connector. As long as this in place hardly any leakage will
occur.
To connect a connector: tighten the two halves handtight, then use special
spanners (Ingrid-cupboard) to
tighten.
To disconnect a connector, use two special spanners to undo, make sure you undo
the two coupling-halves and not the whole connector.
