Starting the mechanism control database

There are two methods for starting the software. The first, in use at the time of writing, is most appropriate during the development and commissioning phases. The second should be used when the NAOMI system (and software) is stable and in normal use. The method listed last on this page is, in practice, what this second method should amount to. During normal operation, if the vxWorks system is using the startup_mechs script as specified in the standard startup procedure, the vxWorks system will startup the NAOMI EPICS system immediately after switching on or reboot. If you are confident that the system is starting up reliably, there is no need to use the vxWorks console at all, as just powering up the VME crate should be sufficient start the software. In order to use the EPICS software, there is no requirement to be (or remain) logged on to the vxWorks system. In normal use, access to the software will be through the DM screens described here.
