Starting up the NAOMI mechanism control DM screens

Engineering access to the NAOMI mechanism control software is provided via control screens that were designed to use the EPICS Display Manager (DM) tool.

Of course it is intended, during normal use, that the NAOMI instrument should be controlled from the top level (level-0) GUI being designed by the NAOMI team at Durham University. However, during development and commissioning, heavy use has been made of the lower level engineering screens. To start them up:

  1. Log on to one of the Unix systems enabled to use DM. Currently these are navis.ing.iac.es and aocontrol1.ing.iac.es.
  2. Change to the directory $naomi/naomiMechs, where $naomi is the top level NAOMI software directory. Ensure that the script $naomi/config/setup.csh has been sourced for your login session (this may have been performed in your .login script).
  3. Type
    ./startdm
The top level engineering screen (for the mechanism control software only) should appear. For a detailed description of these screens, and their use in controlling the NAOMI mechanisms, see here.
