Starting up the INT

  1. Confirm handover with Duty Technician.
  2. Fill the cryostats.
  3. If the dome temperature is higher than that of the outside air, then:
    1. Move the dome to azimuth 90 degrees, and open up 1 metre.
    2. Check that the EXTRACTOR fan by the telescope base is on, and that the INPUT fan on the ground floor is on.
  4. Read the Telescope Logbook and check INT\?BEWARE documentation for reported faults or hazards.
  5. Check T/S DOME STOP is active.
  6. Take ICONA Meteorological readings (optional).
  7. Input files of standard stars and target objects into the PE3220 Telescope Computer (see section gif.
  8. EXTRACTOR fan ON, if not already done.
  9. INPUT fan ON, if not already done.
  10. Shut all doors and window blinds.
  11. White lights out.
  12. Remove dome fan covers, if not already done. Dome fans on.
  13. Dome access doors closed.
  14. Dome lights out.
  15. Open Dome fully.
  16. Finder cover open.
  17. Do a ZEROSET (see section gif)
  18. Primary mirror plug out (Cassegrain focus only).
  19. Secondary and primary mirrors open.
  20. Telescope in Computer Mode.
  21. TV Camera(s) and Autoguider on.
  22. Input SET, GUIDE and INCREMENT rates, if other than default values used.
  23. Focus the Telescope (see section gif or gif).
  24. Do a SNAFU (see section gif or gif)
  25. Determine Finder Zero Point
