Using guide stars with known probe coordinates

 

If you know the probe coordinates from a previous observation (these should have been noted in the observations log), type at the ADAM terminal:

GDXY(POS) x y

where x and y are the probe coordinates. These values are returned by the PFSTATUS command (for the Prime focus) or the Mimic Display (at Cassegrain focus). Units are 40 microns at Prime (despite PFSTATUS's allegation that they are in mm) and microns at Cassegrain.

In this case, you may well wish to acquire the guide star by moving the telescope rather than the guide probe (section gif), as this ensures that your field is in exactly the same position on the detector (or slit) as it was on an earlier run.
