For the purists among the readers it is noted that the latter position is strictly only accurate if the telescope is tracking with a negligible position error. This is because the apparent position is calculated by adding the demanded position to the known position error; the position error, however, is determined in the encoder coordinate system, which is skewed with respect to the telescope mean or geocentric apparent systems. Therefore, this calculation is not accurate for large position errors.
