Taking Data On-source

• Go into `Set_observation' menu and type in name of object, set EXEC mode (move through the options with the left/right arrow key until EXEC is highlighted), and enter the name of the EXEC to be run. PF1 to exit. Doing this will load the EXEC into the stack displayed on the IRCAM parameter status screen. Check that the values selected are OK.
• Execute the `Run' item. Generally, an EXEC will have a BREAK command in it like CGS4. This serves the purpose in WHIRCAM of allowing a final check of the EXEC to be run (rather than allowing peakup as in CGS4). Once you have checked the EXEC, select `Resume_EXEC' and the EXEC will run to either termination or until the `Break_EXEC' item is selected in the `IRCAM3_running' menu.
• Once the system is running you will see messages on the Instrument control (menu) window of the the form:

  OBJECT configuration achieved OK
  Starting observation 5
  Started   IDIR:I960229_5_1
  Completed IDIR:I960229_5_1
  Starting observation 6
  Started   IDIR:I960229_6_1
  Filed     IDIR:I960229_5_1
  Completed IDIR:I960229_6_1
  Filed     IDIR:I960229_6_1

  The three messages can appear asynchronously since the software works in that manner.
• Once the message starting with `Filed' has been issued by the system, the image of that number will soon be available for plotting/processing.
• On the IRCAM_CLRED window, a message of the form:

  Observation file RODIR:RO960229_7 available!

  will appear when the image (Observation 7 in this example) is available to the reduction software.
