Documentation

Adequate documentation is regarded as a fundamental part of any software system, no less important than computer language code. Software documentation delivered to ING must conform to any documentation standard provided by ING during development.

Documentation must be delivered as sources in their respective text processing systems on transfer - this ensures that they can be maintained by ING. The document SOF-STD-1, ING Software Standards Overview, describes the text processing systems of choice for documentation delivered to ING.

The following documents must be delivered as part of the software transfer phase:

The expected content of these documents is outlined in the ESA Software Engineering Standards in and discussed in detail with respect to ING in SOF-STD-2, The ESA Software-Engineering Standards at the Royal Greenwich Observatory. On delivery, these documents must be up-to-date and accurately describe the delivered software system.

The ING will undertake to provide a final version of the Softeare Acceptance Test Plan by the time of pre-delivery testing. This document broadly fits the role of the ESA Software Verification and Validation Plan and the ESA Software Quality Assurance Plan. After pre-delivery testing is complete, a documentary summary of the pre-delivery test results will also be produced by ING software staff and made available to all developers.
