CAMAC
The CAMAC system is used to control the JKT, INT and WHT telescopes.
Camtest
Camtest allows the inputs to camac to be read and the outputs to be
written to. Camtest is used to trace faults that are suspected to
be hardware problems. To use Camtest, do the following:
-
Telnet to the TCS system that you want to run Camtest on.
-
Login:
engineer
-
Password: **********
-
Select Camtest.
-
Typing <help> will list the available commands.
Example Commands
-
execute 6 2 12 0 0 /rep= 100 /per=1000. This will read the absolute
elevation encoder once per second on the WHT CAMAC. The numbers represent
branch 6, crate 2, node 12, sub address 0, function number 0=read 16=write,
repeat 100 times, per is the sampling rate in milliseconds.
-
execute 6 2 13 0 0 /rep /per=1000. This will read the absolute azimuth
encoder once per second on the WHT CAMAC. Note that the rep isn't
defined. This will sample continuously until <ctrl c> is typed.
-
execute 4 1 10 0 0 /rep /per. This will read the JKT dome encoder
once per 1s on the JKT CAMAC. Note that per is not defined.
A sampling rate of 1s is the default.
Plot
Plot allows an input to the CAMAC to be logged. After an input
has been logged, a graph can be produced or the data can be saved for analysis
by another program. To use Plot, do the following:
-
Telnet to the TCS system that you want to run plot on.
-
Login:
genuser
-
Password: ***********
-
Select <plot>.
-
Typing <help> will list the available commands.
Example Command For WHT
-
'cd [wht.data.encoder]'
-
'help' lists commands.
-
'dir' lists the files in the directory
-
'data filename' where filename is the name of the log file.
-
'read 1 utc' sets the x axis for time.
-
'read 2 azimuth poserr' sets the y axis for azimuth position error.
-
'device xwindow' sets the output for the vdu.
-
'limits'
-
'plot'. The graph will now be displayed.
-
To change the values of the graph use 'box 0 5 -.6 +6' This sets
the x and y scales
-
'plot'
-
To print the graph out, use 'device ps'
-
'exit'
-
The output plot will be printed.
-
To print another, run plot again and immediately exit it, answering the
questions.
GSExam
This is used to check values for the telescope servo system and to change
them temporarily for testing.
-
Telnet to the TCS system that you want to run plot on.
-
Login:
genuser
-
Password: ***********
-
Select 'gsexam'.
Example Command For WHT
-
'exam mec_ar_serv(1)' will examine the az servo.
-
'exam mec_ar_serv(1)'.vel_limit' will examine the az servo velocity limit.
-
'dep mec_ar_serv(1).vel_limit(1)=0.1299E-02' to change the velocity
limit.
-
Changes revert back to normal after rebooting the TCS.
Re-Booting CAMAC
To re-boot the CAMAC system, do the following:
-
Shut the contolling computer down.
-
On each CAMAC crate in the system, take it off line and then turn the power
switch off.
-
Leave the system off for 1 minute.
-
Turn each crate back on, reset, clear and put back on line.
-
Start the system computer back up.
-
The CAMAC system is ready to go.
