INT Portserver restart Procedures

There are two Portservers (made by Digi Corporation) built into white racks with 8 RJ45 connections (Ethernet UTP) on the front. There is one located on the telescope at cass (marked Cassegrain Terminal Server) and the other is located in the clip centre (marked Clip Centre Terminal Server).

If either Portserver gets powered off or otherwise stops responding, the demon linking lpss12 to it will need to be restarted. If this is not done, the TCS server (and other connections to instruments and CCDCs) will not start up. Symptoms will be that communications will not start eg a server may appear to lock up while attempting to attach to the port. The Portserver may not even respond to a ping command.

To confirm a problem try from any unix prompt (logged in as observer) type tip d16 you should see the message connected and be able to see the characters you type. Exit tip with carriage return ~. This tests portserver1 located in the clip centre.

Repeat the above with tip /dev/term/b016 which tests portserver2 (on cass).
