Release note summary
4.1.31: Guide window bounded to fibre or ccd underscan; star allowed to be anywhere in window.
4.2: UES slit guiding problems: development version at RGO. Conventional weighted sum centroiding.

Version description

This version has many changes following an investigation at RGOC and development at LPO with telescope time for the cause of unsatisfactory guiding performance on the UES slit image.

The slit transfer function has been improved following development of algorithms to imtelligently fill in the 'hole' in the y profile due to the presence of the slit. In the high signal case, the transfer function is much more linear than before, leading to better guiding.

The noise estimation method has been improved leading to more accurate thresholds and better guide estimates for the low signal regime. This should have a noticeable effect on guiding robustness.

The actual centroiding process has been recoded to use cross correlation with a gaussian profile, thus improving sensitivity and accuracy, especially at low signal levels.

Various control interface sequences have been improved allowing easier control of the system. The user interface has remained unchanged, apart from the guide window tracking being disabled by default.
