Other fibre instruments
AF2 is one of a handful of wide field spectroscopy fibre positioning robots. This page contains a list of links to information on similar instruments.
2dF - The 2 degree field system (2dF) is at the AAT's most complex astronimical instrument. It is designed to allow the acquisition of up to 400 simultaneous spectra of objects anywhere within a two degree field on the sky.
6dF - The automated
multi-object fibre-optic spectroscopy system used on the UKST. The instrument has been decommisioned.
OzPoz - This is a fibre positioning instrument that is used for the FLAMES spectrograph used on ESO's VLT.
Echidna - This is a fibre positioning instrument that is used for the FMOS spectrograph on the Suburu telescope.
Hectospec- Fibre positioning instrument very similar to AF2 but with two robots to reduce setup time, fitted at MMT.
LAMOST - The Large Sky Area Multi-Object Fiber Spectroscopic Telescope (LAMOST).
WEAVE - A new wide-field multi-object spectrograph for the WHT, which will eventually supersede AF2.
