If you have installed the applet with your favorite Web browser, it is the BSCW server's task to start the Monitor:
on the top button bar of your 
Folder to start the Monitor applet.
Starting the Monitor may take a moment or two. In the process you will be asked to provide your user name and password for that server.
Once the Monitor has been started from a BSCW server, communication between server and applet can be initiated by either party -- provided there are no technical obstacles such as firewalls.
