Checking Communications
 

As part of the daily checks it is good practice to check the communications between the NAOMI embedded systems and computers.  Work through the following instructions to check the network communications.

1. From Taurus (WHT Observing System Computer), open a terminal.
2. To check the communications to NAVIS - The NAOMI workstation, type;

whtobs@taurus> ping navis 

3. To check the communications to naomiomc - The NAOMI mechanism control CPU, type;

whtobs@taurus> ping naomiomc

4. To check the communications to naomisdsu - The NAOMI SDSU control CPU, type;

whtobs@taurus> ping naomisdsu

5. To check the communications to fisba - The Interferometer Control pc, type;

whtobs@taurus> ping fisba

6. To check the communications to sbigpc2 - The SBIGPC & FISBA control pc, type;

whtobs@taurus> ping sbigpc2

7. To check the communications to usp - The NAOMI USP mechanism control CPU, type;

whtobs@taurus> ping usp

Each command should return the response 'machine_name is alive', if it doesn't consult a member of the NAOMI team.
