Backing Up FISBA Hard Drive

The following instruction describes the current backup procedure.  To back up the harddrive, currently you have to dismantle the harddrive from FISBA and install it into a machine that has a working floppy A drive, a CD Writer that is compatible with the 'Ghost' boot disk software and about 3 blank CD's.  The computer needs to boot first from the floppy drive, you may have to configure this in the BIOS.  A copy of the 'Ghost' boot disk and  is located on the 2nd shelf of the NAOMI cabinet in GRACE.  You can obtain a copy of the 'Ghost' boot disk from CFG.

  1. Boot the computer from the Ghost boot disk.    During the boot process you may witness a number of errors.  These can safely be ignored.
  2. When the "About Symantec Ghost" window appears, click on the "OK" button.
  3. Put a blank CD into the CD writer.
  4. From the menu that appears at the bottom left-hand corner of the screen, choose the following options :
    Local Disk To Image
  5. At the "Select Source Drive" prompt, click "OK".
  6. From the "Look in" window, select the CD-RW option from the pull-down menu.
  7. Click on "Save".
  8. When the "Compress Image" window is displayed, click on "High".
  9. When requested to, "Copy bootable floppy to the CD-R", select "No".
  10. When prompted to, "Proceed with Drive Backup to CD-R", select "Yes".
  11. At this stage you will receive a warning about NTFS images.  Ignore this warning and continue by selecting "Yes".
  12. The disk imaging will then start automatically.
  13. Throughout the copying process you may be prompted to "Insert Next CD-R disc".  Remove and label the CD that was just written.  Insert another blank disk and click "OK".
  14. The number of CDs required depends upon the amount of information that you have on the disk.
  15. Eventually you will be presented with the "Dump Complete" window, at which stage you should remove the CD, remove the floppy disk and reboot the machine.
