Documentation scope
These documentation pages describe the design, implementation and use of
the EPICS software written at the UKATC to control the NAOMI wavefront
sensor and NAOMI calibration unit mechanisms.
They do not detail any other part of the NAOMI software (the Durham
realtime system, the DRAMA or Python layers).
Intended audience
The documentation is intended to serve as
-
A reference for anyone required to use the NAOMI mechanism control software.
Eventually this should not be required as control over, and access to,
the functions of NAOMI will be through the top-level (level-0) GUI being
supplied by the University of Durham
-
A reference for anyone required to maintain, modify or expand the NAOMI
mechanism software
Readers should have a good knowledge of EPICS and, preferably, the use
of capfast in EPICS database design.
Documentation overview
The documentation is separated into two main parts:
-
User level documentation - these pages give a general overview
of the structure of the software and
of the release. They further describe how to startup the EPICS control
software, and how to startup and use the engineering screens that can be
used to alter the mechanical configuration of NAOMI. The software safety
features that have been implemented are shown here also.
-
Engineering level documentation - these pages describe the EPICS
records that were used in the implementation of this release, the design
of the EPICS database for NAOMI. It further details the source code that
was used as device support for the records, specific to the NAOMI application.
Configuration files, specific to he mechanisms as built and delivered from
UKATC, are also described here.
