shutdownisp / shutdownrtd / shutdownobssys Commands

This page is part of the ING manual WHT-INGRID-2: INGRID IMPB Software Operations Manual

Usage: shutdownobssys
shutdownisp
shutdownrtd

Category: System Startup, Shutdown and Help

Description: These commands shutdown either the entire IMPB Observing System or it's individual components.

The shutdownobssys command shuts down everything. This is the only command that is normally required. Currently (10/11/00) there are only two subsystems that require specific shutdown:  the Instrument Support Platform (ISP) and the Real Time Display (RTD). Executing shutdownobssys is equivalent to executing shutdownisp and shutdownrtd in turn.

The shutdownisp command shuts down the Instrument Support Platform (ISP). This is the component provided for communicating with the INGRID instrument and the Telescope Control System (TCS). In shutting down the ISP the following actions are currently (10/11/00) performed:

  • the TCS link is closed. The DRAMA messaging system is shut down and cleaned up.
  • the SDSU Controller is deinitialised. The power to the camera cryostat is shut down.
  • the EPICS Controller is deinitialised. Mechanism wheels are moved to place blanks in the instrument light path.
The shutdownrtd command shuts down the Real Time Display (RTD). This involves shutting down both the display server (ximtool) and the RTD Control Panel.

Arguments:  None

Examples: shudownisp - shut down the Instrument Support Platform (but leave the RTD running).
shutdownobssys - shut down the entire observing system.
