pimager Command

This page is part of the ING manual WHT-INGRID-2: INGRID IMPB Software Operations Manual

Usage: pimager  "in" | "out" | "datum"

Category: Mechanism Command

Description: This command moves INGRID's pupil imager in or out of the instrument light path.

The pupil imager is an engineering feature used to accurately align the INGRID instrument within the telescope light path. In normal use the pupil imager must be positioned "out".

Currently (10/11/00) control of the pupil imager has been suspended due to doubts about its mechanical reliability. During the instrument standdown at the start of semester 2001A it is planned to make this mechanism operational.

Periodically (and certainly after power cycling the EPICS Controller) it will become necessary to datum the mechanism.  To do so the "datum" argument may be specified. After datuming, the mechanism must be returned to the "out" position to leave it set up for astronometrical use.

Arguments: The command takes a single argument which may be any of:
  • "in" - a string literal indicating the pupil imager is to be placed in to the instrument light path.
  • "out" - a string literal indicating the pupil imager is to be placed out of the instrument light path.
  • "datum" - a string literal which indicates that the pupil imager is to be datumed.

  •
Examples: pimager out - move the pupil imager out of the light path (ready for observing).
pimager datum - datum the pupil imager
