Purpose: archive observations automatically; list observations for the observer's benefit; prepare a night report.
Actors: observer or TO, ING data-manager.
Outline: the data manager copies the observation files written by the DAS. The data manager displays a real-time list of observations acquired. The TO and data manager cooperate to produce a night report.
Typical course of events:
User action | System response | |
---|---|---|
1. | User asks the data manager to start its display (typically, a CIA start-up script asks on behalf of the user). | Data manager starts up a display showing the tabular part of the night report. This is usually empty at the start of observing. |
2. | DAS writes an observation to disk as a FITS file. | Data manager detects the new file soon after it is completed (typically within 10s). Data manager derives a record for the tabular part of the night report describing the observation. Data manager adds this record to the display. Within 24 hours of the observation being made, Data manager copies and archives the observation file. |
3. | At or before the end of the observing night, the TO fills in the prologue of the night report, using an on-line form provided by the Data manager as part of the night-report display. | The data-manager remembers the prologue of the report. At the end of the night, the Data manager archives the completed report. |
