EDUROAM use at the ING

Purpose

The purpose of this document is to provide a description on how to connect to the EDUROAM infrastructure within the ING.

Prerequisites

It is assumed that :

Procedure

Connecting to EDUROAM is OS dependent, especially the requirement of a supplicant software.

Windows
Depending on the driver installed for the wireless network card it might not be needed to install a supplicant but as a default configuration a supplicant software called SecureW2 will be installed. Follow these steps to setup a connection to EDUROAM.
Linux
The linux distribution tested at the ING is Fedora Core 14 or later. The supplicant software already comes with that version of operating system. Follow these steps to setup a connection to EDUROAM using linux.
MacOS
The actual demonstration was done using SunOS 10.6. The supplicant software already comes with that version of operating system. Follow these steps to setup a connection to EDUROAM under SunOS.

Caveats

  1. Depending on the site the security type might change and can be WPA2-Enterprise instead of WPA-Enterprise and encryption AES instead of TKIP, check the EDUROAM locations link and click on the site you are visiting for more information. At the ING the key management is set to WPA2 and the encryption to AES CCMP.
  2. Once connected to EDUROAM you will get a local IP provided by the institution where you are. This implies that the connection can be restricted according to the local institution firewall rules. To be able to connect to the ING private web pages, the ING VPN must be activated.

Tips

  1. If your browser is not able to reproduce the demostration videos or does it too fast, just download them and try other tool to play them.
