Integral field spectroscopy of NGC1068

Abstract:

We present results from the GMOS integral field unit on the nucleus of NGC1068 taken in 0.5 arcsec seeing. From this we have made a large, high resolution, homogeneous data cube of exceptional quality. We have decomposed the emission lines into up to 6 components to produce a very rich dataset describing the behaviour of gas in this object. To help with the interpretation, we have used stellar features in our data to constrain a simple disk model and used this to identify associated structures in the gas as revealed by our analysis of the emission lines.
