Each slot also has a state which offers three levels of protection:
occupied, protected and save. The corresponding commands to
set this protection are:
- PROTECT makes the slot `write' protected, so that the contents
can't be modified, but may still be deleted.
- FREE removes the protection from a slot, to leave it `occupied'.
Any operation which is going to alter
the contents of a slot requires the slot to be unprotected.
- SAVE flags a slot to be saved on exit from the program.
In fact, this is not an automatic procedure: the user simply
returned to the main prompt and is informed
which slots are flagged to be saved.
