A standard Oxford Instruments cryostat is used inverted with an upward viewing window. A full length insert tube is added to allow inverted operation. This seals in the neck with a PTFE sleeve. It is important that a full length tube is used - otherwise very little liquid nitrogen can be transferred into the cryostat during the filling process. The maximum liquid nitrogen capacity is 1.4 litres.
