Summary of Requirements.

On our telescopes our most important requirement is for high performance spectroscopic sensors. We also need a good large format sensor for the WHT prime focus; it should be noted however that a TK2048 CCD (at over 100K) has been considered too expensive for this purpose. There are also some embedded-CCD instruments with unique requirements.

Table 2 presents a summary of our CCD requirements; all devices are required in thin, back-side illuminated form.

Note: In our judgement, monolithic devices are impractical to manufacture currently, and an array of (buttable) chips is more realistic (eg. a mosaic of devices).
