Here are some of my photos from the Christmas 1997 sailing trip.

The Tall Ships will return in Christmas 2000! Click here for the Web page.

Asgard crewmembers Jen Greer and Mark Dinneen look happy enough to be in La Palma on Christmas Day.
Dutch schooner "Eendracht" (~unity) was the biggest and probably most modern ship at the event. Crew are made up of young trainees doing most of the work and older folks who just seem to sit back and enjoy the ride.
The Roald Amundsen (Germany) passing in front of Santa Cruz de La Palma, as seen from Asgard II on the afternoon of 26 December 1997. The Amundsen, in contrast to Eendracht, is rigged according to the classic style of the era of tall ships, 100 years ago.
Yours truly on the Asgard's bowsprit net as we approach La Palma on the afternoon Christmas Eve. OK we were only motoring but it was still class.
This is the view I had from my position in the previous photo. The Man Whose Face You Can't See, is fellow crew member Colin, who also gets credited as The Man Who Took the Previous Photo.
Panoramic view of La Palma, approaching from south of La Gomera (i.e. from SE), hence the northern peak (Roque de Los Muchachos) looks smaller than the southern (Cumbre Vieja). The image has been rotated slightly because looking at a tilted horizon made me feel seasick ;-)

Swimming several miles off the South Tenerife coast, in surprisingly warm ocean water. There was no wind, so nothing for it but heave to and everyone in! That's me on me back sort of top left of the main bunch.  Group photo of (most of) the crew on my last day aboard, taken by Pedro, our passenger from La Gomera. That's Mike Harding the bosun in the middle, with Captain Rohan McAllister to the right of the rail. The good looking fella on the bottom left is none other than myself.

"High" adventure furling the sails on the 80-foot fore-mast of the Asgard II, so that the ship can look nice and neat while in San Sebastian de la Gomera.  Larry takes the helm under full sail on board the Asgard II
