Formal Acceptance

Formal acceptance of any new system can only be made once the system has proven its effectiveness and reliability under normal operational conditions. This requires an extended period of normal operational use, which we estimate to be of order two weeks. It may be more than one ING Allocation Semester before this amount of operational use is achieved. Until the formal acceptance of a system by ING the supplier must remain the major source of support, with assistance from ING software engineers. This warranty period is intended to cover operational problems in the delivered system not revealed by the acceptance testing. Under normal circumstances, it is expected that the demands on the suppliers' resources resulting from this warranty period will be minimal.

The decision to accept a delivered software system rests ultimately with the Director of ING, although the decision would normally be made by a member of the ING Support Astronomy Group. This decision is made with reference to the recommendations given in the Software Acceptance Test Report and its hardware equivalent.
