These pages are here to provide engineering information about the NAOMI project especially on the "as built" information of the NAOMI optics and their alignment issues.

NAOMI general information

NAOMI (Nasmyth Adaptive Optics for Multi-Purpose Instrumentation) is the Common-User Adaptive Optics Facility at the William Herschel Telescope of the Isaac Newton Group. NAOMI is an operational facility and the primary reference resource is now the ING NAOMI WWW page.

NAOMI is a joint project of the Isaac Newton Group (ING), the UK Astronomical Technology Centre (ATC) and the University of Durham:

• Durham - real-time control and adaptive mirror control
• ATC - opto-mechanical system and wavefront sensing
• ING - site facilities

The instrument was delivered in August 2000 and primary commissioning and characterisation continues.
