Autofib 2/WYFFOS Telescope Instrument Setup Procedure

Section 5 : Installing AF2 part 2/2

This sections gives instructions for the second part of the installation procedure.

Fit Ancillary items at top end

  1. Fit the swans neck.
  2. Fit A&G controller support frame and install CCD controller.
  3. Place the top end ring working platform in place and bolt down
  4. Install Westinghouse TV system.
Cable-UP Top end.
  1. Prime Focus Unit to AF2 Robot, A/G Controller, A/G Head.
  2. Dry Air feed to A/G head.
  3. Cable up Autoguider.  Fibre connects to prime 1.
  4. Connections to the Westinghouse TV and interface box
Connect up Science and Guide TV fibres.
  1. Clear area and ensure only change staff are present.
  2. Lay out all the fibres on the floor.
  3. Run the blue science fibres from AF2 up to the break out plate.
  4. Run the black guide fibre in the up to the Westinghouse TV.
  5. Great care must be take when handling the fibres.
  6. Using cable ties secure all the fibres ( where the metal connector joins the grey mesh) at the end of the swan's neck. Ensure the cable ties are on the metal part not on the grey mesh.
  7. Ensure the black fibre storage centre section gaps are taped up so there is a continuous circle, so no fibre can snag.
  8. Very important. Move rotator locally to +/- limits. Check fibres twist OK. When A&G is at the top the rotator PA should be 90 degrees.
  9. Remove top end ring working platform.
Balance Telescope.
  1. Drive weights to the bottom.
  2. Paper calculation on moments removed and added.
  3. Release telescope ties when you are sure telescope is near to balance and slightly bottom end heavy.
  4. Check top to bottom
  5. Check across cube
  6. Check top to bottom
This concludes the Installation of AF2 on to the telescope.  The final thing to do is to check that the instrument works, see Section 6
