Procedure
Section 5 : Fitting the Secondary Mirror
Fitting the Secondary Mirror
-
Crane up to the dome the secondary mirror.
-
Bolt the secondary mirror on to the telescope
and tighten the top two bolts that are used to locate it. DO NOT TOUCH
THE BOTTOM TWO LOCATION BOLTS.

Remove the lifting frame.

Connect the power supply cable and the three
LVDT cables.

Remove the mirror cover.
-
Check that the cabling is secure and pay
particular attention that there is nothing behind the balance weights of
the secondary, as these move in and out during use.

Fit the baffle, taking care not to catch
the mirror or trap any cables.

Check the area to ensure that there are
no loose components.
Flipping the Top End Ring
-
Release telescope ties when you are sure
telescope is near to balance and slightly bottom end heavy.

Turn on the power to the flip ring. The
switch is on the ring.

Put the telescope back to zenith.
-
Flip the ring.
-
Bring the telescope back to access park.
-
Turn off the power to the flip ring.
-
Fit the cover to the front of the baffle.
-
Put the telescope back to zenith.
Balance Telescope.

Paper calculation on moments removed and
added.

Check top to bottom

Check across cube
-
Check top to bottom
Testing the Secondary Mirror

Turn the power on to the prime focus in
the control room.

Using the TCS, move the focus through its
full range using <focus>. The range is 34.5 to115.

Using the <page> command in the TCS,
check that the three LVDT's work correctly. These should have a reading
of between -100 and +100.
Final Checks
-
Check that all AF2 cabling and equipment
is accounted for in the AF2 cabinet.

Tidy up!
That completes the removal of the AF2 instrument from the telescope.
