• AF2 VME crate.
• AF2 servo control amplifier rack.

AF2 Cables

• 240V power cable to robot.

Notes

The gripper TV is used for enabling the robot to `see' the fibres and the inspection TV can be used to allow the user to see inside the robot enclosure.

The control signals to/from the robot are connected into the bottom of AF 2 along with the  cable from the power amplifiers and the TV cables.

The science fibres are carried in blue cables, which are coiled up on the fibre module.  All these
cables are run in the `swan neck' up to the top end ring along with the guidefibres which are carried
in a black cable and also coiled onto the fibre module.

Fitted at the top end ring is a Westinghouse TV and an interface box.

Shutting Down the Control Room Systems

• Fill in the telescope log book to not move the telescope.
• Put the telecope into engineering mode.
• Turn off AF2 video monitor and mimic display in the control room.
• Turn off the Westinghouse TV system in the control room.
• Shut down the observing system.

Shutting Down the AF2 Control System in GHRIL

• At the VT220 AF2 terminal in Ghril, checking that it has an eng prompt, type:
• eng> local
• eng> wake
• eng> sleep
• eng> quit
• eng> stopall
• eng> logout

Removing the AF2 Control System from GHRIL

• Now the power to AF2 VME crate, servo amplifier crate, VT220 monitor and the video display can be turned off.
• Remove the connections for the mimic from the GHRIL patch panel. These are red=26, green=87, blue=62, sync=88.
• Remove the video display connection from the GHRIL patch panel. This is Video=82
• Remove the connection from AF2 to the NIU port 1
• Remove the patch to NIU port 2 to prime port 2 for the autoguider ccd controller.
• Uncable the AF2 control system in GHRIL and neatly store the cables in the Autofib cabinet in the dome.
• Remove the AF2 VME crate, Servo amplifier crate, VT220 monitor and the Video display and store in the Autofib cabinet in the dome.

Telescope Preparation

• Bring the telescope to access park and fit the ties.
• Position rotator with the top mark on AF2 at the top of the rotator.
• At the PFIP controller on the top end ring turn both power switches to the off position.

Removal of the Autoguider

• Turn the power off to the autoguider.
• Leave the autoguider head fitted to AF2.
• Remove the autoguider cabling and store in the autofib cabinet.
• Remove the autoguider controller and mounting frame.

Removal of the Fibre Module

• Put the access platform in place.
• Disconnect and remove the cabling from AF2 to the telescope top ring connectors. Store in the AF2 cabinet in the dome.
• Remove the fibre connectors from the telescope and fit the protective caps.
• Carefully remove the fibres from the telescope and lay flat and straight on the dome floor.
• Remove the swan neck from the telescope and store in the dome area.
• Carefully take all the blue science fibres and coil them in a spiral, starting from the centre to the outside, into the storage rack on the fibre module.
• Carefully take the black guide fibre and coil it in a spiral into the storage rack on the fibre module.
• Securely tie the fibres into the storage rack.
• Using three people, take the weight of the fibre module and unbolt it.
• Remove the fibre module, taking care not to lose the spacers, and put into its storage case with the spacers.

Removal of Ancillary Items

• Remove the Westinghouse TV camera and store in the AF2 cabinet.
• The access platform can now be removed, after checking that there are no loose objects left laying around.
• Disconnect the air line from AF2 and store in the AF2 cabinet.

Removal of the Robot

• Attach the AF2 lifting frame to the AF2 robot and support using the crane.
• Remove the bolts attaching AF2 to prime.
• Lift the AF2 robot to the basement and place it into its handling trolley.
• Fit the AF2 cover to protect the robot.

Removal of the Prime Rotator

• Fit the cover onto the prime focus rotator lens.
• Turn the power off to the prime focus unit in the control room.
• Uncable the prime focus unit.
• Check that the lifting frame centre of gravity is correct for the prime focus rotator.
• Attach the lifting frame to the prime focus rotator and take the weight using the crane.
• Unbolt the prime focus rotator and crane it into its handling frame in the basement.

Fitting the Secondary Mirror

• Crane up to the dome the secondary mirror.
• Bolt the secondary mirror on to the telescope and tighten the top two bolts that are used to locate it. DO NOT TOUCH THE BOTTOM TWO LOCATION BOLTS.
• Remove the lifting frame.
• Connect the power supply cable and the three LVDT cables.
• Remove the mirror cover.
• Check that the cabling is secure and pay particular attention that there is nothing behind the balance weights of the secondary, as these move in and out during use.
• Fit the baffle, taking care not to catch the mirror or trap any cables.
• Check the area to ensure that there are no loose components.

Flipping the Top End Ring

• Release telescope ties when you are sure telescope is near to balance and slightly bottom end heavy.
• Turn on the power to the flip ring. The switch is on the ring.
• Put the telescope back to zenith.
• Flip the ring.
• Bring the telescope back to access park.
• Turn off the power to the flip ring.
• Fit the cover to the front of the baffle.
• Put the telescope back to zenith.

Balance Telescope.

• Paper calculation on moments removed and added.
• Check top to bottom
• Check across cube
• Check top to bottom

Testing the Secondary Mirror

• Turn the power on to the prime focus in the control room.
• Using the TCS, move the focus through its full range using <focus>. The range is 34.5 to115.
• Using the <page> command in the TCS, check that the three LVDT's work correctly. These should have a reading of between -100 and +100.

Final Checks

• Check that all AF2 cabling and equipment is accounted for in the AF2 cabinet.
• Tidy up!
