Autofib 2 Engineering Instrument Setup Procedure

Section 1 : Gather AF2 Equipment

Below is a list of AF2 equipment that you need to set the instrument up in a development area.  The list contains the location of where the item should be stored.  If the item is missing then the person responsible for the instrument (currently Kevin Dee kmd@ing.iac.es) should be informed.  A picture of each item will be viewed by clicking on each items link.

NOTE  The AF2 Cables link will give you a description on the 19 cables that should be in the AF2 Cabinet.

Mechanical assistance is required to crane the equipment from there storage place to the development area.  This assistance should be arranged with the Operations Team Leader either on the day of moving of preferably the day before.

Once all the equipment have been gathered in the development area, it is a good idea to proceed with some basic mechanical checks as described below.

  1. Visually check the robot for any problems, particularly the gripper mechanism.
  2. If needed lubricate Autofib2 using a cloth impregnated with oil.  Be careful not to get any lubricant on the prisms. DO NOT USE SPRAY LUBRICANTS OR COMPRESSED AIR TO CLEAN AND LUBRICATE AUTOFIB
  3. Visually check the fibres on the field plate making sure that none of them have fallen.
  4. Connect the small fibre module to the robot.
IMPORTANT  If testing Autofib 2 without the fibre module, it is important to place a metal object on the small module detection sensor.

Now we are ready for cabling the instrument, see Section 2.
