The Day Before The Change

• Check Autofib visually for any problems. Particularly check the Gripper mechanism.
• DO NOT USE SPRAY LUBRICANTS OR COMPRESSED AIR TO CLEAN AND LUBRICATE AUTOFIB!
• Lubricate Autofib using a cloth impregnated with oil. Be careful not to get any lubricant on the prisms!

• Set Autofib up in the test focal station in the WHT. Do not fit the fibre module yet!
• Visually inspect Autofib internally for broken wires, loose connections, etc.
• Power up Autofib.
• Place a metallic object on the large/small fibre sensor, depending on which module is in use.
• Initialise Autofib's control system.
• Wake the robot. The robot should move to the centre.
• Sleep the robot. The robot should move to the far corner.
• Remove the metallic object from the large fibre sensor.
• Fit the fibre module.
• Back illuminate all the fibres using the back illumination test rig.
• Wake the robot.
• Perform a <loadmodule> command in engineering mode to check that Autofib knows where all the fibres are.
• If <loadmodule> fails, then manually place all the fibres into the load ring and use <ringallfibres> to update the positions. Afterwards, <loadmodule> will update the fibre positions.
• Perform a field set up.
• Park the fibres.
• Sleep the robot.
• Shut the control system down.

• Check the alignment of the camera to the robot as per Autofib 2 technical note 2 gripper unit mechanical and optical alignment.

• Disassemble Autofib and prepare for Autofib to be lifted up to the dome.
• Put Autofib's VME crate, servo amplifier crate, VT220 terminal, frame grabber monitor and engineering mimic display in GHRIL.
• DO NOT POWER ON.
• Connect Autofib's control system in GHRIL together.
• Power on ONLY Autofib's VME crate.
• Check that Autofib is on the network. Remember that Autofib has two network connections!
• Power VME crate off.
