Notes

The gripper TV is used for enabling the robot to `see' the fibres and the inspection TV can be used to
allow the user to see inside the robot enclosure.

The control signals to/from the robot are connected into the bottom of AF 2 along with the
cable from the power amplifiers and the TV cables.

The science fibres are carried in blue cables, which are coiled up on the fibre module.  All these cables are run in the `swan neck' up to the top end ring along with the guidefibres which are carried in a black cable and also coiled onto the fibre module.

Fitted at the top end ring is a Westinghouse TV and an interface box.

1. Preparation (If observing schedule allows).

Before the day of the instrument change.

1.1 Check that GHRIL is prepared

The cabling in GHRIL is as follows:

1.2 Check that the Prime Focus Unit is prepared.

1.3 Check AF2

1.4 Check Ancillary equipment.

1.5 Check lifting equipment

1.6 Check control room is prepared

Instrument Change: Autofib/WYFFOS On. Secondary Mirror Off.

2. Telescope Preparation.

In control room:

At the prime patch panel in the control room, check that the following connections are made: At the A/G fibre patch panel in the control room: At the access park position in the dome: Telescope preparation complete instrument change can start.

NB Do not turn of oil system.

3. Secondary Mirror Removal.

4. Fitting Prime Focus Unit.(PFU)

NB great care must be taken when placing the PFU in the telescope. This is because the crane beam
and telescope axes are not orthogonal.

5. Fitting AF2 Robot

Test that the robot works from GHRIL:

6. Fitting Fibre Module

7. Fit Ancillary items at top end

8. Cable-UP Top end.

9. Connect up Science and Guide TV fibres.

10. Balance Telescope.

11. Does it all work?

11.1 Engineering Checks

11.1.1 From GHRIL in Engineering mode.

Start AF2 Micro.

Loadfibres and view on TV.

11.1.2 From Control room

11.1.3 Duty Checks

11.2 Astronomy Checks (day time)
